(Released in 2000)
Butterfly Blue is a compilation of eighteen original songs and poems written, performed and produced by Jon Sherman. Through harmonies and images that enchant the heart and lilting rhythms that invoke the spirit, these compositions take the listener on a lyrical journey of integration with the natural world. Inspired by the endangered Palos Verdes Blue Butterfly of Southern California, this album is dedicated to all creatures struggling for their continued existence.
The beautiful painting on the cover, depicting the critiacally imperiled Palos Verdes Blue (Glaucopsyche lygdamus palosverdesensis) and one of its two food plants, Deerweed (Lotus scoparius)is a gracious contribution to this project by renowned watercolorist Fealing Lin.
Reviews:
Inspired by the endangered Palos Verdes Blue Butterfly, this album is a colorful tapestry of poetry, flute playing and singing, all woven together with light ethnic rhythms - the pure sounds of nature. Just like the fluttering of a butterfly, the melodies are beautifully gentle and flow with inspiring words that pour with the emotion of a gushing waterfall. Jon Sherman wears a badge for nature with this CD - bringing forth all those wonderful little things about nature that we often pass by without a glance, reminding us that Mother Nature comes in all shapes and sizes, all colors, and holds incredible powers.

This CD is a beautiful and soothing tribute to the interconnectedness of the natural world.
Lynn Paschal, Earthworks Sustainable Living Magazine
Butterfly Blue is a reflection of the delicate balance all creatures share with nature.
Jim Walters, San Gabriel Valley Weekly
Jon's clear tenor voice beautifully fits the natural setting, soaring above the cascading rhythms of his keyboards. It's music that adds, rather that detracts, from the wonder of the surroundings.
