sempervirens ) branch
flute,
contrasting nicely with the exposed and finely finished wood grain. Measuring 21 1/2" in length it is tuned to an F# minor pentatonic scale, modes 1 & 4. Surface checks and knot holes, as well a few bark crevices, have been inlaid with Sleeping Beauty Turquoise. Elk lacing with Sleeping Beauty Turquoise and horn bone beads holds the bird to the nest, the bird fitted with a redwood heartwood shoe to aid against wetout. The branch for this flute was gathered from the ground, under a grove of Coast Redwood trees that grow at Descanso Gardens.
